Trent Freeman

Professional Experience

Trent Freeman is a family law attorney in Johnson Law Group’s Commerce City office, where he represents clients throughout Adams County, Brighton, and the north Denver metro in divorce, child custody (allocation of parental responsibilities), and child support matters.

Trent comes to the firm from the Adams County District Attorney’s Office in Brighton, where he served as a Deputy District Attorney. Prosecuting cases in the very courts that serve Commerce City and the surrounding communities, he built his career on courtroom advocacy, evidence, negotiation, and preparation, and on holding himself to the highest ethical standards. In 2025, the Adams Broomfield Bar Association named him Young Attorney of the Year.

That courtroom foundation matters in family law. Clients facing a contested divorce or custody dispute get an advocate who is comfortable on his feet in a courtroom, understands how judges weigh evidence, and knows how to negotiate firmly when a fair resolution is possible and litigate when it is not. His prosecutor’s perspective is a particular asset in high-conflict cases and in matters where family law issues intersect with protection orders or criminal proceedings.

Before his prosecutorial career, Trent spent more than three years as a law clerk with a Northwest Arkansas firm, drafting motions, memoranda, and discovery responses and preparing cases for the courtroom. As a Rule 15 student attorney during law school, he handled every aspect of client representation, from the first interview through investigation, negotiation, and court appearances. He also served as a Dean’s Fellow and research assistant to the Dean of the University of Arkansas School of Law, researching topics including poverty, workplace legislation, and the leadership of lawyers.

Personal Background

Before law school, he helped pilot a summer mentorship program for young men in Little Rock, developing its curriculum and teaching financial literacy, and supported statewide philanthropy work with the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. He believes families in crisis deserve the same things every client deserved when he stood in a courtroom as a prosecutor: preparation, honesty, and an advocate who treats the outcome like it matters.

Education

Trent earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas.
