Melissa K. Matsunaka

Senior Attorney

Melissa K. Matsunaka is a Senior Attorney at Johnson Law Group, working from our Fort Collins office and serving families across Northern Colorado, including Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, and Larimer and Weld counties. She brings more than 15 years of Colorado family law experience, helping clients through divorce, parental responsibilities, and post-decree matters with a steady, practical approach and clear guidance about what to expect at each stage of their case.

Before joining Johnson Law Group, Melissa spent more than 15 years at Clark Williams and Matsunaka, LLC in Loveland, Colorado, where she began as an associate attorney and became a partner. Her practice focused on domestic relations in Larimer and Weld counties, the same communities she serves today. She represented clients from the initial consultation through final decree, settlement, or resolution, handling contested dissolutions, parental responsibilities, and post-decree enforcement actions.

Melissa is known for helping clients set realistic goals and manage competing priorities during some of the most stressful moments of their lives. She has taken more than 25 depositions, examined fact and expert witnesses in district court, and drafted marital settlement agreements, discovery, and dispositive motions. She also brings experience in mediation and alternative dispute resolution, helping families reach agreements outside the courtroom when possible. As a partner, she supervised and mentored legal assistants and paralegals.

Outside the law, Melissa has been a professional whitewater raft guide and raft guide instructor in Fort Collins since 2007. As a trip leader with more than 20,000 river miles, she knows how to stay calm, set priorities, and lead others through high-pressure situations, skills she brings to every case.
