Sarah Scherer
DIRECTOR OF INTAKE
Professional Experience
Sarah Scherer is the Director of Intake at Johnson Law Group, based in the firm’s Englewood office. A Colorado attorney since 2013 with a Master of Social Work from the University of Denver, Sarah leads the team that answers every potential client’s first call, so when a family reaches out about a divorce, child custody, or child support matter, their first conversation is guided by someone who understands both the law and compassion for their story.
Sarah comes to Johnson Law Group after four years directing intake at one of Denver’s largest family law firms, where she personally conducted in-depth initial consultations with potential clients across divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, post-decree modifications and enforcement, adoption, guardianship, and dependency and neglect matters, and managed the intake team behind them.
Her legal career has centered on Colorado families and children from the start. She ran her own Denver practice representing parents in dependency and neglect cases and serving as guardian ad litem for children in custody and parenting time cases in Denver Juvenile Court. She spent more than two years as the Denver Juvenile Court’s liaison to the Department of Human Services and community organizations, working under the direction of the Presiding Juvenile Judge, and served as a judicial fellow in domestic relations at the Arapahoe County Justice Center. Earlier, she trained in courtrooms on every side of the table: a county attorney’s office handling child protection hearings, a district attorney’s office, the Colorado State Public Defender, and a victim law center.
Before law school, Sarah earned her Master of Social Work and began her career as an intake counselor at a domestic violence shelter, providing court advocacy for victims. She also spent three years as a policy associate with the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Children and Families Program, educating state legislators across the country on family law, human services, and housing and homelessness legislation nationwide. That combination, attorney and social worker, is what she brings to every family’s first call: legal clarity delivered with genuine care.
Education
Sarah earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, her Master of Social Work from the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work, and her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Adams State University.
