Fort Collins Alimony Lawyers

Spousal Maintenance Attorney in Fort Collins

Understand What Maintenance Actually Looks Like in Your Case

Colorado calls it spousal maintenance. Most people call it alimony, and the question underneath is the same: whether you can cover your life after this ends. Johnson Law Group gives Fort Collins clients a realistic picture of that number before anyone files anything.

Our office is on East Harmony Road in southeast Fort Collins, minutes from the Harmony and Interstate 25 corridor. Maintenance conversations are financial and often uncomfortable, so we hold them wherever you will be most candid, in person or on video. Nothing gets decided in that first meeting.

Family Law We Handle in Fort Collins

Maintenance is never calculated in isolation. What you keep in the property division changes what you need, and support for children is calculated first. For the guideline, the factors, and the duration table, start with how spousal maintenance works in Colorado.

These related matters often travel with it:

  • Child custody: Parenting time and decision-making, what Colorado calls parental responsibilities.
  • Child support: Setting, modifying, and enforcing support for your children.
  • Divorce: Ending a marriage, from filing through the final decree.
  • Guardianship: Legal authority to care for a minor or an incapacitated adult.
  • Paternity: Establishing legal parentage and the rights and duties that follow.
  • Property division: Dividing marital property and debt, including homes, businesses, and retirement accounts.

Larimer County and Northern Colorado

Eighth Judicial District, Larimer County Justice Center, 201 LaPorte Avenue, Suite 100, Fort Collins, CO 80521.

Filings go through the Clerk of Court’s office in Suite 100.

The Eighth Judicial District covers Larimer and Jackson counties, and its domestic relations dockets sit at the Larimer County Justice Center in downtown Fort Collins. Our Harmony Road office is roughly 15 to 20 minutes from the courthouse, depending on traffic. Colorado’s e-filing system also lets us file and track most case documents without a trip downtown.

The Justice Center houses a Court Resource Center that assists self-represented litigants in Larimer and Jackson counties. Under Colorado’s domestic relations rule, an initial status conference is set no later than 42 days after the petition is filed. Attorneys on both sides can file a stipulated case management plan instead.

The Attorneys Who Serve Fort Collins

When you hire Johnson Law Group, you are hiring a team, not a name on a letterhead. Attorney assignments are made by fit: the nature of your case, your priorities, and the level of support you need.

Why Fort Collins Families Trust Johnson Law Group

The first call is not a sales call. We listen to what is happening in your family and what you want to protect. You will leave with a clear read on where you stand, even when it is not what you hoped to hear.

We give you the number before you get attached to a different one. Clients often arrive with a figure from a friend, an out-of-state calculator, or a hopeful guess. We run the actual guideline early so the negotiation starts from something real.

A client portal that keeps you in the loop. Real-time alerts, case milestones, and billing visibility, included at no additional cost. You will always know where your case stands.

We are staffed for income the guideline was not built for. Business distributions, deferred compensation, and combined incomes above the guideline threshold land here regularly. The firm’s footprint across Colorado, Illinois, and Wyoming means a spouse in another state does not require a second law firm.

No outcome guarantees, only preparation. No lawyer can promise a particular result, and you should be cautious of anyone who does. What we commit to is the preparation, strategy, and communication that give your case its strongest footing.

What to Expect When You Call

Our consultation process is straightforward and built around three things you need before any decisions get made:

  • We listen first. Tell us what is happening. The short version is fine, and we will ask the questions that matter.
  • We explain what Colorado law says. In plain English, with no lecture and no scare tactics.
  • We map your next step. You will leave knowing what comes next: filing, responding, gathering records, or taking time to think it through.
